Financial Tips from Fidelity

Get ahead this year.

Publish Date: February 1, 2022

Many are thinking about their finances this time of year and what to do with that much anticipated tax return.  Consider these tips to get ahead this year, courtesy of Your Hometown Bank!

TIP #1: FILE EARLY
Just because the tax deadline is in April, doesn't mean you should wait!  Collect all necessary documents and file your taxes as soon as possible to avoid someone filing a fraudulent tax return in your name.

TIP #2: START AN EMERGENCY FUND
Your tax return or stimulus payment may be a great way to start building your emergency fund.  Your fund should have 3-6 months of take home pay saved for emergency expenses or loss of income.

TIP #3: PAY OFF CREDIT CARDS
Especially if your credit score is lower than you'd like!  Paying off debts and keeping credit card balances low are great ways to improve your credit score.

TIP #4: MAKE A BUDGET
Setting a budget is essential to financial success, even if you're living comfortably.  Once you set your budget, stick to it and you'll have better control over reaching your financial goals.
